Romona "Mona" June Holtgrewe's Obituary
Romona “Mona” June Holtgrewe of St. Petersburg, FL passed away peacefully among family on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. She was 96 ½ .
Born June 25,1929 in Mattoon Township, IL to the late Ephraim Basil Andrews and Lila Grace Wishart, she lived her early life in the farmland of rural Mattoon and graduated class of 1947 from Mattoon Senior High School. Shortly after marrying Corporal Glenn Edward Holtgrewe on August 12, 1951, the couple relocated to Port Charlotte, FL. She worked as a beautician for a total of 50 years, starting alongside her mother before taking over her beauty shop.
Romona was an avid reader who loved crossword puzzles, basketball games and crafting of all sorts. Known for her quippy sense of humor, resilience, and strength, Romona found joy throughout her life in the simple things. She loved traveling both stateside and abroad, adored her cats, and enjoyed any media featuring John Wayne. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and GiGi. Romona’s connections with family and friends spanned almost an entire century, and her gift of unconditional love and patience will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lila, her father Ephraim, her step-father Harley Tate, and her loving husband of 30 years Glenn. She is survived by her daughter, Shari Bauder; son-in-law Richard M. Bauder; grandsons Richard G. Bauder and Justin Bauder; granddaughter Ashley Bauder; grandchildren-in-law Sybil Bauder and Christian Wilyat; and two great-granddaughters: Daphne and Vivien Bauder.
A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2026, 2pm at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens, 27200 N. Jones Loop Road, Punta Gorda, FL. Family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, and honor her beautiful life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Suncoast Hospice or a local animal shelter of your choice.
