Leon P. Darsey's Obituary
Leon Palmer Darsey, age 90 of Punta Gorda, Fl, passed away on February 10, 2015 in Lakeland, FL. He was born on March 4, 1924 to Raymond and Julia Darsey in Quincy, Florida.
After graduating from Quincy High School, Mr. Darsey served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1951 with a bachelor degree in Education. Mr Darsey worked for the Charlotte County Schools for 33 years, teaching Industrial Arts for 12 years and working in school administration for 21 years.
His hobby was woodworking and throughout his life he enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, hunting, and camping. He taught Sunday School and served as a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Punta Gorda for many years.
Mr. Darsey moved to Punta Gorda in 1953 with his wife, Gertrude, where they worked and raised four children. His loving wife, Gertrude, passed away in 1980.
He is survived by his children, Jan Shields (Tim), Suzanne Kuhn (Larry), Steve Darsey (Debbie), Pamela Joiner (John), and 10 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Gertrude Irby Darsey, wife Anna Laura Smith Darsey, wife Dorothy Snyder Darsey and his four siblings.
He will be truly missed by his family and the many friends he made during his life at school, work, and church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Punta Gorda
