Kaye Ellis' Obituary
Kaye Ellis, 91, of Port Charlotte, FL. passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Tidewell Hospice House, Port Charlotte. She was born on June 26, 1923 to James and Hallie B. Ellis of Newland, North Carolina. She moved to Charlotte County in 1956. She was a long time business owner in Charlotte County. She and her sister Evelyn received their real estate license in 1957 and were instrumental in a number of sales for both residential and commercial businesses. She was co-owner in a successful restaurant located in Charlotte harbor known as Smith's Plantation that hosted the first dinner for the Superstars competition held in Rotunda and filmed by ABC Sports. She was one of 12 siblings, of which several followed to Charlotte County and for many years helped her in her various business ventures. She owned The Flame Lounge in Charlotte Harbor and Pier One in Punta Gorda. She is survived by her sisters Jean and Dorothy and their families of North Carolina, niece Linda (Chuck) Megill and family of Port Charlotte, FL., nephews Wayne (Cecile) Smith and family of Lakeland, FL. gary Smith of lakeland, Fl. Jeanne (Phil) Carter of Port Charlotte and other family members around the country. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Tidwell Hospice House Port Charlotte or the charity of their choice.
