James " Jim" Alexander Brown, 88, of Punta Gorda, FL, passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2013. He was born Sept. 13, 1925, in Queens, N.Y., to Alexander and Adella Brown. He proudly served his country as a flight officer during World War II for the Army Air Corps. Upon separation from military service, he completed his degree in chemistry at Hofstra University in Long Island, N.Y., and embarked on a career working with Allied Chemical in Morristown, N.J., American Hoechst Chemical in Bridgewater, N.J., and Reichhold Chemical in White Plains, N.Y. James retired to Punta Gorda with his wife Marion, in 1976. Jim and Marion owned and operated L&M Hobby in downtown Punta Gorda from 1976 to 1992. .A loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed by his son, James Jr. (Leilani) Brown; his daughters, Linda (Bruce) Seward and Janice (Jim) Brady; his three grandchildren, Amber, Christopher, and Chelsea; and his two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Savannah.
