James R. Anderson Sr.'s Obituary
James R. "Jim" Anderson Sr., 86, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Monday April 28, 2014, under the care Tidewell Hopice. He was born June 30, 1927, in Toledo, Ohio, to david Anderson II and Jane (nee Gramling) Anderson of Maumee, Ohio. Jim's family moved to Punta Gorda when he was 14. After high scholl came the draft to the Army to serve his country in 1945. He attended Stetson University, Receiving a B.S. degree in Business Administartion. Jim worked with Standard Oil, and then had a career with Florida Power & Light. He served in clubs and on civic boards and committees: he was a member and past president of the Punta Gorda Rotary Club; a member and past Ponce of the Royal Order of the Ponce De Leon Conquistadors; past chairman of the Punta Gorda Housing Authority; and served on the City of Punta Gorda Charter Revision committee, the Mobile Home Park committee during Mayor Beck's administration, and the City of Punta Gorda Planning Commission for 11 years, serving as chairman on two occassions. In 1998 he became a member of the Construction Industry Licensing Board of Charlotte County for 10 years; and coached Little League. Jim loved his wife, fishing, hunting, grilling out, country music, vacations in Branson, MO., Tarpon football, the Florida Gators, and the Seminoles, except when they played the Gators. Jim leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Gwen; his children; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister; and brother.
