Ada L. Lawson's Obituary
Ada L. Hill Whitney Lawson, 92, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away Friday, July 14, 2017, at Tidewell Hospice Englewood.
She was born Nov. 2, 1924, in Marianna, Florida, to Cora and Henry Hill.
Ada lived in rural Gaines, Michigan, before moving in 1958 with her family of five to Florida to live along the Peace River. While a resident of Arcadia, she worked as a real estate broker. When she moved to Port Charlotte, she volunteered at Meals on Wheels Thrift Shop, Virginia B. Andes Clinic and the Cultural Center of Charlotte County. Ada enjoyed the friendship of neighbors, the many people she met where she volunteered and at the churches she attended over the years.
Ada will be greatly missed by her daughter, Gale (Don) West; son, Gary Whitney; sister, Magalene "Maggie" Neal; brother, Danny Ray (Linda) Hill; sisters-in-law, Mozelle Hill and Marthena Sawyer; brother-in-law, Lamar (Ruth Ann) Lawson; stepsons, Gary (Sharon) Lawson and Rex (Diane) Lawson; grandchildren, Eve Sweeting, Mark McElroy, Matt McElroy, Melinda Wells, Eric Whitney and Marcey Whitney; and 15 great-grandchildren. Ada was preceded in death by her first husband, Russel E. Whitney, second husband, Lawrence "Larry" L. Lawson; daughter, Carolyn McElroy; sisters, Marie Smith and Annie Pitman; and brother, Vernon Hill.
Memorial contributions in Ada's memory may be made to First Baptist Church, Port Charlotte.
