George W. Hicks

George William Hicks, 86, of Port Charlotte, FL, passed away Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, in tamps, FL. he was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Philadelphia, PA, to George William Richard Hicks and Mary Elizabeth Hicks. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Chanute Field, I11., with the rank of staff sergeant until 1945. He was a parts managerfor Clark Equipment Company Retail Outlet in Mount Laurel, NJ, and Volvo Construction Co., from which he retired in the early 1970s. George and his wife, Dorothy, moved to Punta Gorda, where George was employed by punta Gorda Yacht Club as a dock master and later managed Cedar Village Condos in Punta Gorda until 1990. George was an elder at first Presbyterian Church in Punta Gorda; a volunteer at Charlotte Regional Medical Center for 13 years; and a treasurer of Punta Gorda Masonic Lodge 115 F&AM. He was a member of Scottish Rite Bodies and Araba Temple. In 1989 George married his high scool sweetheart, Mildred Griffith. George and Mildred celebrated 15 years of happiness and loving until George's death. He is survived by his wife, Mildred; his son, Kenneth (alicia) of Port Charlotte; daughter, Beverly Adams; sister, Barbara (Warren) Myers; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; stepson, Harry A. (Linda) Gumm; nieces and nephews; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy; his brothers, John and David; and his mother and father.
