Fannie Steadley

Fannie Steadley, 96, of Port Charlotte, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 5, 2016, with her daughter Edna by her side. Fannie was born in Middlebury, Indiana, on Jan. 5, 1920, to Mattie and Samuel Miller. Fannie united in marriage to Marshall Steadley on Sept. 20, 1947. They moved to Punta Gorda in 1944, where Marshall started a radiator repair shop and Fannie worked as the bookkeeper. The couple was so well known a street in Punta Gorda was named Steadley Street after them. Fannie also worked as a nurse's aide at the Medical Center Hospital in Punta Gorda. After 26 years of marriage, Marshall passed away in May of 1973. Fannie was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Punta Gorda and spent her last years at the Royal Palm Retirement Center and started the "Happy Stichers Club". She was and expert at crocheting and taught many of the residents. They made caps and lap robes for cancer patients and babies. Fannie is survived by one daughter, Edna Scott and husband Leslie of Houlka, Mississippi; three grandchildren, Darla Campbell of Greenfield, Indiana, Andrea Scott of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Jessica Arya and husband Kunal of West Monroe, Louisiana; three great-grandchildren; sister Katherine Ross of Thayne, Wyoming; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
