On Sunday, July 19th, 2020, Darrell Jay Whitmore, loving husband and father of two children, passed away at the age of 77 peacefully at Tidewell hospice and is now with his Lord and Savior. He was born December 12th, 1942 in Lodi, Ohio (raised in Wadsworth), to Jay Whitmore and Iona (Whitmore) Sigler. He worked as an Application Engineer for Reliance Electric for many years. He then started his own business, Control System Innovators, Elgin, IL in 1988. As founder and CEO he was inventive, well known and respected in the field for his ability to find a solution for any problem. He designed control systems for industries such as steel mills and corrugator plants. He married Roselyn Robisch in 1964 in Cincinnati, Ohio. They had two children, Lynette (Wayne) Henk and the late Wayne Whitmore. He joins his son Wayne and his father Jay in heaven. He leaves behind his wife, Roselyn of Port Charlotte FL, his daughter Lynette, his mother, Iona, siblings Carol (Jim) Doenges and Terry (Suzanne) Sigler as well as grandchildren, Nick (Sarah), Austin, Evan, Andrew ( Monica) and Zachary as well as nieces and nephews. His passions were unique cars like his most recent BMW i3 electric car. He loved riding around the countryside on his motorcycle with his wife on the back. He even ventured to Tennessee to ride the famous "Tail of the Dragon". He also enjoyed his daily recumbent bike rides in Florida. Darrell attended Community Life, Port Charlotte regularly. His faith in God was important to him. Funeral service will be held Monday, July 27th, 2020 at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, Punta Gorda, with close family at 11am. Interment will take place at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens, Punta Gorda at 12pm. Flowers to funeral home or donations in his name to the Community Life food pantry at 19048 Edgewater Drive, Port Charlotte, FL 33948.
